getprevThere is something magical that happens when we walk along the shore. Our cares lighten; our perspective lengthens. Scientists are trying to put their finger on exactly why that is, and, in fact “I’m Always Entirely Happy When I’m Here” is the title of a 2013 German study that found that outdoor settings, particularly those by the water, help us recover from stress. Proof…just head to the beach and let the sand and waves sooth your body and soul. Can’t get to the beach. No problem. Asheville’s only authentic Salt Cave produces a similar effect on your mind and body. Salt therapy has been known and used in Europe for hundreds of years. The resonate vibration of the salt, the negative ions and the soothing micro-climate all produce an environment in which the body and mind are free to begin to balance and “heal” themselves. Asheville’s Therapeutic Salt Cave  Salt Cave and Salt Spa is a family owned and operated business located in downtown Asheville, NC.

We are increasingly exposed to pollutants in the air we breathe and the water that we bathe in. It is not surprising that there are visible increases in respiratory and skin problems. These health issues take the form of asthma, seasonal allergies, breathing difficulties, heart and metabolic disturbances, skin rashes, depression and countless other modern diseases.

Every breath of salty air we take in is an irreplaceable, natural benefit for many of our ailments. On the basis of medical knowledge and experience, we have created our unique therapeutic salt cave, where you can find the same environment as you would in natural underground salt mines. The salt in our cave comes from mines in Poland and is over 250 million years old. It is anti-bacterial, uncontaminated by dirt, and is free of toxins and pollutants.

The secret of healing in the salt cave is simple. The air is intensely saturated with negative ions along with 84 trace elements and minerals. By breathing in these elements, the body gets in balance and begins to heal itself. Our therapeutic salt cave will leave you with a newly discovered energy accomplished without medications, through a natural healing process. Our goal is to afford people of all ages the opportunity to experience a complete, holistic health benefit.

What Can Salt Therapy do for you?

During a 45-minute salt therapy session, you relax in zero-gravity lounge chairs while being immersed in calming sounds in our unique micro climate. Shoes must be removed. We will provide booties or you may bring clean white socks to wear in the cave. Breathing in the salt air is said to foster good sleep, alleviate symptoms of allergies and asthma, relieve hypertension and stress and even cure hangovers. However we make no medical claims.

The salt cave is something like an oasis of fresh air in the heavily polluted environment in which we live.

As an alternative treatment our therapeutic cave helps patients who suffer from acne, arthritis, asthma, bronchitis, congestion, chronic and acute otitis, cystic fibrosis, hay fever, skin conditions of all types, ear infections, migraines, snoring, poor concentration, allergies, eczema, ear nose and throat conditions, psoriasis, relapsing pneumonia, frequent viral infection, weakened immune systems, and countering the effect of smoking and pollution.

National Nurses Review endorses Salt Therapy. The sea provides many benefits to our life as the atmosphere acts saline through the skin and lungs, causing an acceleration of metabolism, thus improving blood circulation and lymphatic system. It is now possible to enjoy all these benefits without having to go to sea . This is made possible by visiting a therapeutic salt cave. Being in this environment, the stress is reduced, the case also all kinds of respiratory diseases and allergies, improving the appearance of our skin and preventing skin aging.

Dr. Felix, an allergist,  has practical experience with natural salt caves from Germany.
Speleotherapy(salt therapy in a cave) is one of the reputable treatment methods for these kinds of diseases, moreover a natural one. The ideal temperature, air humidity, high ionization, rich mineral microclimate and low, almost zero-level concentration of allergens allows patients, allergists in calm state, to significantly reinforce their respiratory tract and whole immune system. In acute states, the microclimate can reduce reaction to allergens and minimize medications needed.

At the teaching hospital with Policlinic in Bratislava Ruzinov, Slocakia Dr. Zuzana Lukacova, a dermitologist has stated : In treatment of some skin diseases, the seaside’s climatic conditions have been used for many years, which help in healing or significantly improving the healthy state of a patient.

Dorota Wronska, M/D., laryngologist, Kielce, Poland states: A unique microclimate reigns in the room. The air is saturated with elements like iodine, magnesium, potassium, chlorides, bromines, selenium and copper. Such amount of minerals and trace elements occurring in salt caves together with adequate temperature and humidity is necessary for the correct operation of the upper and lower respiratory tract. These procedures are appropriate for the recovery of an inflammation of the nasal cavities, inflammation of the throat and larynx. I especially recommend visiting a salt cave to people with inflammation of the tonsils and long lasting inflammation of the throat, larynx and nasal cavities.

Professor M.D. Jiri Homolika, head of 1st Lung Clinic of 1st Medical School of Comenius University and General teaching hospital in Prague, Czech RepublicI verified that the condition of patients with asthma and inflammation of the upper and lower respiratory tract improved after 5-10 stays in salt cave similarly as after a stay at the sea.

Aleksander Sielużycki, internist, Jelenia Góra, Poland says…there are people with skin diseases like psoriasis and various types of dermatitis. The beneficial effects of staying in salt caves on these diseases and dysfunctions are unquestionable and can be proven. We also cannot forget the effect of this microclimate on the nervous system in the treatment of neurosis, psychosomatic difficulties and a variety of phobias. Similar kinds of treatments based on natural methods are nowadays carried out in most developed countries.

These procedures are used as supplemental methods and definitely boost the effects of the treatments and consecutive convalescence. Another group would consist of people without health problems. Each of us is affected by our environment. Eating irregularly and unhealthy foods, living in never ending stress and everyday haste reflect on our fitness and mood.

We are tired, apathetic and discontented. A stay in a salt cave coupled with listening to relaxing music (calm whir of the sea, bird songs or enjoyable instrumental music) acts as a balsam to our nerves. By these procedures we can talk about aromatherapy. The unique aroma of the sea salt enriched with various natural substances has invaluable effects on whole organism. The caves turn into a significant element helping in the treatment of many serious diseases. Their preventive function can reduce the chance of their formation.

M.D. Tibor Barta PhD., head of the First Otolaryngology clinic of Teaching Hospital with Policlinic in Bratislava – Petrzalka, SlovakiaM.D states that climatic treatment speeds up healing processes. Healing effects of salt minerals can be used and have been well known for centuries. Various procedures based on salt are carried out either directly in salt-mines or with the help of respiratory devices at rehabilitation and treatment centers.

MD. Catherine Bergendiová, PhD., Clinical immunology and allergy, Pneumo – Allergy Centre, Bratislava  states:  The salt cave is very good for people with allergies. The air is saturated with ions of iodine, calcium, magnesium, sodium, bromine, selenium and other trace elements, creating a microclimate that has a huge positive impact on the treatment of a wide range of diseases and strongly supports the immune system – both in children but also in adults .

Another very positive influence salt cave therapy lies in the fact that inhaled saline aerosol dries microbial cells of pathogenic microorganisms, which deprives the body then released in the form of mucus from the airways. This phenomenon is known as the self-cleaning process of the body. The decline is a direct result of not only inflammatory changes in the airways, but also in the entire organism.
