Asheville’s only salt cave that is sustainable and growing! With 30+ tons of pure pink Himalayan salt, we have naturally recreated the micro climate of a salt mine. We sustain this climate by maintaining the specific temperature and humidity levels found in a naturally occurring cave. The air in our nature inspired therapeutic cave is intensely saturated with negative ions, while the salt rock crystals release 84 trace elements and minerals which are essential to the homeostasis of our bodies. Our pink salt comes from the Himalayas, from over 500 meters below the earths surface, and is over 250 million years old.  It is anti-bacterial, uncontaminated by dirt, and is free of toxins and pollutants.

pollen

Allergy sufferers can often trace their sniffles back to tree pollen.

This is one of the primary allergens in the spring. Weather conditions help determine pollen concentrations. Windy, dry days allow the pollen particles to float freely through the air. Allergy symptoms often start when pollen counts exceed 50 grams per cubic meter. Heavy rains wash airborne pollens out of the air, providing some relief for allergy sufferers. Heavy spring rains can promote grass growth, which can also lead to greater concentration of grass pollen later in the spring and into early summer.

How To Avoid Allergies

  1. Pollen counts are typically high between 5 am and 10 am, so limit outdoor activity during this time frame.
  2. When driving keep your windows closed..
  3. When you are home keep your bedroom windows closed.
  4. If you have been outdoors take a shower and wash your hair to get rid of any pollen.
  5. Watch the pollen count. If pollen counts are high you may want to avoid outdoor activities, especially during the early morning hours.
  6. Visit the Asheville Salt Cave for an allergy free session in our anti-bacterial micro-climate

Is It Allergies?

  • ALLEGIES: red watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose, thin clear mucus, and wheezing. Symptoms can last for days or months after contact with allergens.

All Life Forms

All life forms on this planet come from the ocean. The water of the ocean is a natural sole (concentrated salt and water solution). We can observe this process in the growth of the fetus in the womb. The amniotic fluid in the womb is 1 % water and salt solution – the sole.  The word sole (natural salt solution) is directly connected to the word “soul”.  Life is equal to energy. Lack of energy causes disease.  Suppressing symptoms does not heal. An energy deficit creates a chaotic state within our bodies. If we use medications solely to suppress the symptoms we are experiencing we will not find the cause of the illness nor will we be able to balance our systems.

Water

Water is the pillar of all life forms. It is the beginning and the end of our life cycle. Water is not only important for our physical body, but it is also responsible for our thought processes, feelings and moods. If we drink enough water our body can eliminate toxins much quicker.

Salt

floor salt copySalt is equally as important to as bodies, as is water. We could not survive without water and salt. They are equal partners. Natural crystal salt contains all the minerals and trace elements found in our body. Even the most simple process in our body, requires salt. Salt is a core essential nutrient that is fundamental for keeping us alive. With out salt we would not be able to think nor would our muscles move.

The minerals found in natural salt crystals are available in such small particles that they can be absorbed easily by our cells. Salt is a vital source of life. Allopathic medicine has recognized the healing properties of salt since the late 1800’s.

Our Salt Cave

Inside Asheville's Salt Cave
Inside Asheville’s Salt Cave

The water which is found in the two water features of our Salt Cave is called Sole. It is a highly concentrated solution of water and salt. These two salt water features along with a constant temperature and constant humidity help to create the unique micro climate. When one experiences a salt cave session, ones body takes in the micro climate via respiration and through the skin. Our cave is made up of 20 tons of natural salt rocks which contain resonant vibrations . It is not just the purity of air in the salt cave that has a healing effect, but more important is its resonant vibrations, that activate our self-healing and self-regulating powers.

Salt Rooms

Salt rooms, which have become popular in our country, do not produce a micro climate nor does the coarse salt on the walls produce any resonant vibrations in a large enough quantity to produce any medical benefit to our bodies.

To learn more about the amazing combination of salt and water in our bodies and how they regulate and allow our body to heal itself read Water & Salt: The Essence of Life by Dr. Barbara Hendel and Peter Ferreira.

Chakras:

It is believed that these hold the ability for ones body to heal itself. The spiritual healing associated with Chakras arose in India around the 1st century.  Energy healers assess and then balance our 7 chakras or energy centers in order to maintain ones well-being.

Chakras are part of what is known as the energy body, an energy field that is believed to hold the power for the body to heal itself.  Each of the 7 Chakras is thought to be a swirling focus of light radiating along the spine and according to the Hindu tradition each can reveal a lot about your physical and emotional well-being.

According to tradition, a variety of problems, from headaches to depression, can result from trapped energy, which is why the Chakras need to be rebalanced.

Each Chakras reveals clues about a particular area of the body. Each has it own specific purpose and is associated with certain organs, hormones, emotions, and parts of the personality.

Description of each Chakra:

Chakra 1 – The root Chakra is located at the base of the spine, representing your foundation and feeling of being grounded.  If this Chakra is blocked it is associated with lower-back pain, immune problems, depression and varicose veins.

Chakra 2- The sacral Chakra or womb Chakra is centered in the pelvis, lower abdomen, and lower back.  It symbolizes creativity and sexuality. If this Chakra is damage it is believed to result in hip pain, fertility problems, arthritis, and illnesses of the prostrate or ovaries.

Chakra 3 – The solar plexus represents confidence, self-esteem and a feeling of being in control of your life.  Found between the belly button and rib cage it regulates the liver, gall bladder, stomach and adrenal glands.  If this Chakra is weak it may result in ulcers, stomach issues, eating disorders and liver problems.

Chakra 4 – The Heart Chakra: A healthy 4th Chakra allows you to be compassionate and to forgive.  As the middle Chakra of the 7 it also navigates a balance between body, mind and spirit.  It affects the heart, circulatory system, thymus gland and lungs.  If blocked it may cause heart problems, asthma, allergies and lung illnesses.

Chakra 5- is located in the throat and determines the ability to communicate.  It symbolizes self-expression and truth.  It takes care of toxins in the lymph nodes, thyroid, esophagus and mouth.

Chakra 6- Is the “famous” Third Eye. It represents intelligence, intuition and the ability to see the big picture.  It governs the brain, nervous system, eyes, ears and nose.  If it is weak it may cause neurological illness, headaches and eye problems.

Chakra 7 – The Crown Chakra symbolizes your spiritual side. It takes care of the muscles, bones and skin. If this Chakra is blocked it may cause a sort of spiritual discomfort.

The Salt Market located at 12 Eagle Street in downtown Asheville (at the Asheville Salt Cave) carries Billy Zankski’s (from Skinny Beats Drum Shop) Chakra Bowl Meditation CD. This CD is a 55 minute sound healing tool that journeys through the 7 Chakras. Five tracks of peaceful music help relax the mind and body while tuning the Chakras. Track 4 is all 7 Chakras in ascending and then descending order.

This article appeared in the October issue of The Laurel of Asheville:

“The healing properties of tea, salt, and sound will combine to create an hour of bliss in the Asheville Salt Cave beginning next month. “A Tea Journey in the Salt Cave” is a special session that helps participants cultivate their relationship with the Earth and its diverse cultures.

The experience will include a tea class and tasting led by Dobrá Tea’s Andrew Snavely and Lindsay Thomas, Native American flute music by Geri Littlejohn, and a guided meditation and introduction to the salt cave surrounded by mineral salts and water features. Participants can choose to relax on zero-gravity chairs, or on pillows and blankets.

“We will be sharing locally harvested herbal teas, and teas from around the world,” says Andrew. “Each ‘Tea Journey’ is unique, with teas chosen not only to showcase the range of flavors, fragrances, and sensations but also chosen to reflect the time of year. Some may taste salty, others roasted or floral.”

“As the participants sample the teas, I offer songs inspired by the teas themselves,” says Geri, “utilizing the water features in the salt cave that help to deliver the minerals and elements into our bodies for healing as part of the soundscape… The improvisational music is inspired by that pour, by the present moment. It becomes another form of tea ceremony.”

On this day in history, November 5, 1922, tuberculosis medical pioneer Dr. Karl Von Ruck passed away in Asheville. In the 1870’s doctors began praising Asheville’s climate and mountain air for the treatment of respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis. In 1888, Von Ruck established the Winyanh Sanitarium in Asheville. He was a constant advocate for Asheville as a health destination.

Today Asheville is a destination for many reasons, health and wellness being one. Things have come full circle in Asheville. The Asheville Salt Cave is proud to be part of the alternative health scene. Our facility offers our clients an alternative breathing treatment which aides in relaxation, restoration of mind, body and soul and rejuvenation.

On this day in history Asheville lost an advocate for Asheville as a health destination. Many to this day come to Asheville for alternative health treatments, to enjoy the climate and to breath in the mountain air.
